　　　　两者在表示“种类”时，常可换用，只是sort更口语化，且有时带有贬义。如：

　　He’s some sort of crook.他是个无赖。

　　两者在用法上应注意以下几点：

　　1.以下两类表达基本同义，但第二种表达更正式：

　　这种电脑质量很好。

　　正：This kind[sort]of computer is of good quality.

　　正：Computers of this kind[sort]are of good quality.

　　非洲有很多种蛇。

　　正：Many kinds[sorts]of snakes are found in Africa.

　　正：Snakes of many kinds[sorts]are found in Africa.

　　2.kind(s)of或sort(s)of通常用于单数可数名词和不可数名词前。如：

　　one kind[sort]of flower(bread)一种花(面包)

　　many kinds[sorts]of car(bread)许多种车(面包)

　　注：在非正式英语中，复数形式的kinds of和sorts of也可用于复数名词前(较少见)，但单数形式的kind of和sort of通常不能用于复数名词前。如：

　　正：these kinds[sorts]of flowers(people)这些种花(人)

　　误：this kind[sort]of flowers(people)

　　不过可以说：flowers(people)of this kind[sort]

　　3.在口语中，有时these,those与单数kind,sort连用。如：

　　These kind of questions are very difficult.这种问题很难。

　　但是此用法有人认为是不正确的，因此对孩子来说，在诊断时还是以用下列表达为宜：

　　正：These(Those)kinds of questions are very difficult.

　　正：This(That)kind of question is very difficult.

　　正：Questions of this(that)kind are very difficult.

　　4.比较：What kind[sort]of...?和What kind[sort]of a...?前者指类型、类别、种类等，其中的what具有类似which的含义；后者指作用、性质、性能等，其中的what具有类似how的含义。如：

　　What kind[sort]of car is it?这是什么牌子的车?

　　What kind[sort]of a car is it?这种车质量如何?

　　5.在口语中，a kind[sort]of可表示一种模糊意味。如：

　　I had a kind[sort]of feeling that you would say that.我有一种感觉，就是你会那样说的。

　　He gave a kind[sort]of smile and left the room.他像是笑了一下，然后就离开了房间。

　　6.在非常随便的口语中，kind of和sort of有时可用作副词，表示程度，意为“有点儿”。如：

　　I’m feeling kind[sort]of tired.我感到有点儿累。

　　He kind of smiled at me.他朝我微微一笑。
